The Screen Gems
The Screen Gems are a 3 piece formed by singer/songwriter/guitarist David Barrett and bass player Mark Saunders with Andy 'Bones" Shaw on sax. They pride themselves in inventing their own genre of music mixing contemporary writing with a jazz feel.
The Screen Gems love the feel of classic jazz artists like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Dave Brubeck but, like Steely Dan, compose songs that are new. They do add some well-chosen covers from Sting, The Temptations and Cab Calloway to name a few. David's vocal style is soulful and draws on artists like John Martyn and Van Morrison for inspiration. The songwriting is often collaborative with Mark and Andy contributing to ideas.
The Screen Gems have played at some big events this summer including The Surrey Blues Festival and The Guildford Beer Festival, local showcase evenings, and they've also taken to the streets for some busking.
